There’s something truly magical about South Africa – a country where breath-taking landscapes meet incredible wildlife and luxurious accommodation. Recently, one of our travel experts had the privilege of experiencing this first-hand on a remarkable six-day adventure through Cape Town, the Wine Region, and Kariega Game Reserve. Let us take you through this unforgettable journey!
Cape Town
Our South African adventure began in Cape Town, where despite high winds closing the cable cars to Table Mountain, our incredible guide Faizel from New Frontiers ensured we didn’t miss out. We enjoyed a whistlestop tour of the city and its stunning suburbs, with breath-taking views from Signal Hill that left us in awe.

Our first night was spent at Lawhill Luxury Apartments, offering a true home away from home with its enviable waterfront location overlooking the V&A Waterfront Marina. These spacious 1-3 bedroom apartments are perfect for couples, friends, or multigenerational families looking to explore this incredible city with both comfort and style.
Luxury and Elegance in the Mother City
The next morning treated us to an extraordinary breakfast at the exclusive Mount Nelson Hotel. Oozing with old-world charm and elegance, this 198-room hotel feels surprisingly intimate and boutique-like. The breakfast surpassed all expectations – freshly caught oysters and champagne as standard! It’s no wonder this is a favourite among celebrities and royalty seeking seclusion and privacy.
Our exploration continued with visits to two charming luxury boutique guesthouses in the Gardens neighbourhood – One Kensington and Four Rosmead. Both offer just 10 bedrooms each, providing that intimate family-fun feel with personalised service alongside luxury hotel amenities.

Wine Country Splendour
Leaving the city behind, we ventured into the beautiful wine region to Lanzerac Resort & Spa in Stellenbosch. This sprawling historical property boasts an award-winning spa, three restaurants, and nine different pools for its 54 spacious, individually decorated bedrooms. The perfect stop for those seeking peace and tranquility along South Africa’s Garden Route.
Our home for the night was the exquisite Brookdale Estate Manor House. Originally built as a holiday home on a vineyard, this gorgeous 7-bedroom property can be booked by room or as an entire home. With its private pool, two dining rooms, newly opened Bistro restaurant, private chef, and attentive staff, it epitomises personalised luxury amidst breath-taking surroundings.

Safari Adventures at Kariega Game Reserve
The next morning, we headed to Port Elizabeth and onwards to Kariega Game Reserve – a family-owned, 11,500-hectare malaria-free wilderness on the East Cape. After a warm welcome (complete with champagne!), we embarked on our first game drive, spotting lions, zebras, rhinos, giraffes, and elephants within hours!
Kariega offers five different lodges, each providing an authentic African safari experience. We explored the intimate 4-star River Lodge with its 10 thatched-roof cottages catering to guests over 12. Its unique location on Bushman’s River allows for exclusive activities like river cruises to the beach, canoeing, and fishing.
We also visited Ukhozi Lodge, another 4-star option with 10 separate rooms, featuring an infinity pool overlooking the plains and spectacular sunset views. A highlight was the traditional Boma dinner experience, included for all guests at no extra cost.
Our final game drive delivered an incredible finale – thanks to our knowledgeable ranger Jannik, we spotted two adult male lions and one female! A perfect end to our Kariega experience.

Final Days in Luxury
Our journey concluded with a stay at the stunning One & Only Cape Town. Located right at the V&A Waterfront, this luxury resort offers 131 of the biggest rooms and suites in Cape Town, with excellent options for families including interconnecting rooms. With restaurants like Nobu and Rooi, it’s the perfect base for exploring the city.
Our last day featured a half-day tour down the Cape Peninsula, with breath-taking views from Chapman’s Peak, adorable African penguins at Boulders Beach, and quick stops at Simon’s Town and Muizenburg – an ideal option for travellers with evening departures.

From luxury accommodations to wildlife encounters, gourmet dining to awe-inspiring landscapes, this South African adventure created memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you’re seeking a city break, wine country retreat, or safari experience, South Africa delivers it all with unparalleled charm and hospitality.
