Everything You Need to Know (Plus How to Save Up to £600)

Walt Disney World is already one of the world’s great family holiday experiences. But when your food and drinks are completely covered for the whole trip? That changes things. What’s Included?

The free dining plan you receive depends on the resort tier you choose. There are three options:

Value Resorts

Each guest (ages 3+) gets a Free Quick Service Meal per night of stay, including one main course and one alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink, redeemable across 90+ locations.

Moderate Resorts

Guests receive a Free Quick Service Dining Plan per night, which steps things up to two Quick Service meals per guest, each with a drink, plus a Resort-Refillable Drink Mug and a snack or soft drink.

Deluxe Resorts

This is where it gets seriously good. Each guest gets a Free Table Service Dining Plan per night, including one Table Service meal (main course, dessert and drink), one Quick Service meal, a Resort-Refillable Drink Mug, and a snack or soft drink. That covers everything from quick bites at the parks to full sit-down restaurant experiences with a view.

How Dining Plans Work

No wallets, no mental maths, no stress at the end of a meal. Your credits are loaded onto your Disney MagicBand or card at check-in. Whenever you want to eat or grab a drink, you simply tap and the balance updates automatically.

A couple of things worth knowing:

• Credits are pooled across your whole party. If you want everyone to do a Table Service dinner one night and Quick Service the next, you can mix and match freely.
• Unused credits roll over daily and are valid until midnight on your check-out day. So if you’ve got snack credits left on your last morning, head to the nearest cart and use them up.
• You can make dining reservations up to 60 days before arrival using the My Disney Experience app. For popular restaurants, this matters a lot (more on that below).

Why Booking Early Is So Important

Here’s something a lot of first-timers don’t realise: the most sought-after Disney dining experiences book out within hours of the reservation window opening, which is 60 days before your arrival date.

Character dining is particularly in demand. Experiences like Cinderella’s Royal Table (yes, you actually eat inside the castle) and Topolino’s Terrace at Disney’s Riviera Resort fill up remarkably quickly. Set yourself a reminder for the moment your reservation window opens and use the My Disney Experience app to lock in your favourites before anyone else does.

If you miss out on a reservation at a restaurant you really want, don’t give up. Cancellations do come up, so it’s worth checking back periodically, especially in the week or two before you travel.

2027 Is a Big Year for Disney Dining

It’s also worth noting that 2027 sees the return of the Deluxe Table-Service Dining Plan for the first time since the pandemic. Disney hasn’t offered three dining plan tiers for years, and for serious food-lovers, this is genuinely exciting news. The Deluxe plan gives guests two full Table Service meals per night, making it possible to do signature restaurants like Narcoossee’s at the Grand Floridian or California Grill at the Contemporary on a regular basis throughout your stay.

On top of the free dining, if you book by 2nd July 2026, you can save up to £400 per booking and choose one of the following added extras:

Taken together, this is a generous package by any measure. A family using the dining plan over a 10-night Deluxe resort stay could find the plan covers a substantial portion of what would otherwise be a significant daily food spend.

A Few Tips to Get the Most From Your Dining Plan

Go big on Table Service credits. If you’re on the Deluxe plan, use your Table Service credits for dinners at the more upscale restaurants rather than lunches at casual spots, where you’d arguably spend less by paying out of pocket.

Character dining is worth doing at least once. Experiences like Garden Grill at EPCOT (it slowly rotates as you eat, giving you a changing view of the Living with the Land boat ride below) or ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Resort offer something genuinely unique alongside the food. These are the moments kids talk about for years afterwards.

Use the My Disney Experience app throughout your trip. You can check your credit balance on the app, make and manage reservations, and even mobile order at Quick Service restaurants so your food is ready when you arrive. It takes a bit of setting up before you go, but it saves a lot of time once you’re in the parks.

Don’t save credits for the last day. It sounds obvious, but it’s easy to arrive at checkout morning and realise you’ve got six snack credits left. Plan your final evening with that in mind.
